The McAuley Catholic High School welcomes and supports individuals wishing to gain work experience when undertaking a teaching qualification. Anyone wishing to apply to the school to request a placement must do so in writing and include the following information:

  • The purpose of the request and the qualification you are working towards
  • The number of days/weeks experience required and for and what period of time this would be over
  • The department or area of school in which you would like to gain experience
  •  Whether you hold a satisfactory, valid enhanced DBS check (previously CRB check)

The McAuley Catholic High School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of Children. We would expect anyone wishing to volunteer or undertake work experience to share this commitment and protect children therefore an enhanced DBS check must have been undertaken along with relevant pre-employment checks before you are allowed into school. Usually Universities and Colleges routinely carry out DBS checks on students undertaking teaching qualifications and in this case your educational establishment should supply a letter (on letter headed paper) confirming that a satisfactory enhanced DBS check has been undertaken and including the disclosure number and the date of issue.

Please note, if you do not have a recent DBS check and you do not subscribe to the Governments DBS update service and the school has offered you an opportunity to gain work experience, an enhanced DBS check must be undertaken before your work experience can start. The current cost of an enhanced DBS check is £44.00 plus a £12.00 administration charge and we would pass on this charge to the applicant. Please be aware that the DBS process can take up to six weeks or longer to complete.
